October the 13th, 2023 – August this year was a hit for all Croatian airports, with 10% more passengers having been recorded in comparison to August 2022.
The Croatian tourist season for 2023 has been an excellent one despite fears and worries that dominated the pre-season. It appears that the woes of the global coronavirus pandemic are now firmly behind Croatia and indeed in all of its main emitting markets. Croatian airports were happily full of people during August, and 2022’s figures have all been smashed for that same time period.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, there were 9.8 percent more passengers recorded in Croatian airports in August this year than there were back during the same month last year. The majority of them were recorded at Split Airport, according to data from the State Statistics Office (DZS).
Split Airport leads the way
In total, there were 1.95 million passengers recorded in all Croatian airports in August this year, which is 9.8 percent more than there were in August 2022, when there were 1.77 million passengers recorded. The highest amount of passenger traffic was achieved by Split Airport, with 676,000 passengers, which is an increase of 8.5 percent compared to August 2022.
Split was then unsurprisingly followed by Dubrovnik Airport with 443,000 transported passengers and a year-on-year increase of 3.5 percent, then by Zagreb Airport with 382,000 transported passengers and considerable growth of 10.2 percent.
There’s even been a boost for Osijek Airport
At Zadar Airport, a turnover of 293,000 passengers was realised (representing an impressive 23.6 percent increase).
Looking away from the glitz of Dalmatia and the obvious increases experienced by the Croatian capital city, it’s interesting to note that the largest increase in passenger traffic of 192.1 percent compared to August 2022 was achieved by Osijek Airport. However, while an increase is of course positive, this still represents a significantly (and understandably) lower number of transported passengers overall.
