August 14, 2024 – Luka Modrić is officially the most decorated player in Real Madrid history!
Real Madrid won the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta in Warsaw on Wednesday night (2-0). The first goal was scored by Federico Valverde in the 59th minute after a great assist from Vinicius Junior, and debutant Kylian Mbappe scored in the 68th minute with an assist from Jude Bellingham. Real Madrid’s captain Luka Modrić played from the 77th minute when he came on or Rodrygo.
This new trophy gives Modrić a new title – the most decorated player in Real Madrid’s history. That’s an incredible 27 trophies won for the Croatian footballer.
Until tonight, Modrić shared first place with Nacho Fernandez, but the experienced Spanish defender left the club this summer, so he remained with 26 trophies. Modrić is now alone in first place.
Modrić shared first place on the list of players with the most trophies in the European Super Cup along with Arie Haan, Paolo Maldini, Dani Alves, Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos, and Dani Carvajal. These footballers won it four times each. After this victory tonight, Modrić and Carvajal are the record holders with five European Super Cup wins.
The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner has played 535 games for Real Madrid, scoring 39 and setting up 86 goals.
