September the 25th, 2024 – Croatian PM Andrej Plenković has sat down for an interview with CNN in which he discussed Croatia’s development alongside other EU countries, and more.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, with continuous GDP growth and the highest credit rating in history, Croatia is rapidly catching up with more developed EU members, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on CNN on Monday evening.

“The prospects for Croatia, as the youngest member of the European Union, in terms of economic growth and catching up with members who have been in the EU longer are very positive,” Croatian PM Andrej Plenković said in an interview with Richard Quest for CNN.

Croatia’s credit rating has recently been at level A- according to both Standard&Poor’s and Fitch.

Croatian PM Andrej Plenković also announced to CNN that the government will continue to create better conditions for Croatian citizens and business owners alike, “this is especially the case for foreign investors, including those from America whom I’ll meet here in New York.”

He added that there will be no departure from the nation’s current centre-right policy, which he has pursued as Croatian Prime Minister for the past eight years, as reported by N1.

Here in Europe, there has been a change in the political architecture, and Plenković believes that the reasons for this are multiple. They include the consequences of illegal migration that affected the safety of citizens, the economic and social consequences of the pandemic and the Russian aggression against Ukraine which resulted in an enormous energy crisis, the rise in energy prices and inflationary pressures.

However, various European institutions are now at the beginning of a new mandate, and all commissioners of the European Commission come from moderate parties, Plenković noted.

The majority supporting the new European Commission, he added, is very balanced and is not influenced by any extreme political parties.

When asked about the recent presidential elections in the USA, Croatian PM Andrej Plenković said that the choice of US citizens should be respected.

“We’ve worked with the administration of former President Trump and President Biden, and we’ll respect the will of the American people. We want everything to go well and for American democracy to be strengthened and not weakened after the elections in November, as it was after the previous ones,” he pointed out.

“We’re watching with great attention what’s happening in the US”, he said, adding that the level of polarisation at the moment is noticeable, but “this also happens in some other democratic countries”.

Croatian PM Andrej Plenković is otherwise on a one-week visit to the United States. On Friday, he intends to speak at the UN General Assembly, before visiting Los Angeles and then Chicago.
