October the 30th, 2026 – Advent in Split has capped the prices of what it will sell during the upcoming Christmas festivities.
Ahead of the Christmas period and the different advent celebrations across Croatia, a new trend among local politicians is limiting prices for hospitality providers. The new city that has joined the wave is Split. Split hospitality providers who can apply for the tender for Advent stalls have been met with a limitation on the prices of food and drinks.
Poslovni reports that this new wave of price capping appeared after ever-increasing prices at Advent events across Croatia often caused dissatisfaction among visitors and locals alike. Split has therefore become the third city overall that has decided to introduce an upper limit on the prices of certain products. A hot-dog sold at Advent in Split will now cost a maximum of three euros, which is two euros less than up in Pula, which has also limited its own advent prices this year. Mulled wine in both of these cities will be available for a maximum of three euros, while fritule sold in Split will still be one euro more expensive than in Pula.
Poreč has otherwise been applying this model of price limitation for several years. The general public’s opinions on prices at festive events up and down Croatia are divided. While some believe that the offer often does not justify the amounts they have to pay, others point out that the entire Christmas period is an opportunity to enjoy the festive atmosphere, which is why prices are not always their primary concern.
