October the 31st, 2026 – Tourism Minister Tonči Glavina has stated that he more than welcomes advent price caps announced across Croatia, hoping for higher winter visitor figures.

The tourism minister stated that ” for any Advent to be successful, its most important component in terms of the structure of guests, in terms of revenue, in terms of hospitality and so on, is precisely domestic consumption,”

Index reports that he added that this type of consumption depends most on the citizens who live in the municipalities and cities that organise Advent fairs. He recalled that Poreč, Pula and Split have introduced price limitations for part of the Advent offer. He pointed out that the Split model provides for the determination of part of the prices already in the public call that regulates the relations between the city and the tenants of the Advent stalls. At the same time, prices are limited only for a smaller part of the hospitality offer.

“In this way, they’ve very clearly ensured the conditions that Advent and the hospitality offer at Advent are absolutely accessible to everyone,” Glavina said.

split caps its advent prices for the first time ever

It’s worth noting that this year, Split has introduced limitations on the prices of part of the food and drinks at Advent stalls for the very first time. According to the public call published by the city company Žnjan, a portion of fritule of at least 150 grams may cost a maximum of four euros, while a hot dog and sausage of at least 80 grams may cost a maximum of three euros. Mulled wine and hot chocolate, in a quantity of at least two decilitres, may cost a maximum of three euros. For the same quantity of tea hospitality providers will be able to charge a maximum of €2.50, while half a litre of water must not be more expensive than two euros.

The limitations apply to the seven listed products, and not to the entire offer. A novelty is also that the City of Split will for the first time, when selecting tenants, score the quality of their hospitality offer, and not only the offered rent. This year’s Advent in Split will last from the 27th of November to the 6th of January, and Advent stalls will be set up on the Riva, Prokurative, in Đardin and Stobreč.

pula also caps its advent prices

A similar decision was made by Pula, where fritule, pancakes and Christmas cookies may cost a maximum of three euros per portion. For mulled wine, hot chocolate and cocoa the maximum price will be three euros, and for a hot dog, hamburger and bakalar five euros. Tea and water will be able to cost a maximum of two euros. Nevertheless, the limitations do not mean that all products at Pula’s Advent stalls will have prescribed prices. Hospitality providers will have to offer at least one product at a limited price, depending on the type of offer, while they will be able to determine the prices of other products independently.

Such a model has already been applied for years in Poreč, and things will be no different throughout the upcoming festive period, either.

Glavina emphasised that Advent as a tourist product is very important for the development of year-round tourism and tourist results in the months of December and January. He stressed that this year the Croatian National Tourist Board is for the first time conducting a national campaign with all key domestic Advent destinations, directed towards the main markets from which tourists come to Croatia.

“We’re making that transition towards year-round tourism and it is very important for us to have good content and programmes, and I am sure, because of the good prices, that the number of visitors at Advent will perhaps be higher than ever before,” he concluded.
