December the 9th, 2024 – Tourists often rave about the high quality of Croatian roads, but how do they compare to roads around the world?

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, driving in a new country can be an exciting experience, depending on where you go. With smooth roads and beautiful scenery to enjoy, there are many countries that offer their tourists a pleasant driving experience. Croatian roads are among those which offer a great surface and fantastic scenery.

Driving on foreign roads can also be an unpleasant experience. Navigating unfamiliar roads can be a challenge for your driving skills, and road quality and infrastructure play a very significant role.

The popular website DiscoverCars recently conducted a new study on the quality of roads around the world. They surveyed exactly 11,003 driver-tourists about their time spent on holiday abroad, with questions related to the quality of the roads in the country they visited.

These reviews from around the world helped them rank the top ten countries with the best road quality, and Croatian roads were naturally among them. They also ranked the countries that received the worst ratings, using a special ranking method. They asked respondents to rate the country they drove in from 1 to 10 based on the quality of the roads there.

According to drivers-tourists, New Zealand ranks as number one for the best road quality in the world with an impressive score of 8.71 out of 10. This island nation located in Oceania offers truly stunning scenery, making driving a more than pleasant experience, with visitors stating that “the roads were perfect”.

Poland ranks second on the list with a score of 8.70 out of 10. This Central European country is a popular holiday destination, and tourists are surprised by the well-maintained and excellent roads there.

In third place is the Canary Islands in Spain, with a score of 8.61 out of 10. The quality of the roads on these islands is generally very good, as they’re well-maintained, making it easy for tourists to explore the area and its numerous attractions.

In fourth place comes Germany, with a score of 8.45 out of 10. The quality of the roads in Germany is generally very good, thanks to its well-developed network of motorways. Visitors to Germany who use the roads consider them to be in good condition, despite frequent roadworks.

In fifth place for the best road quality are the Balearic Islands which belong to Spain, and they were rated 8.44 out of 10 by tourist drivers. The Balearic Islands consist of four islands – Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, each boasting incredible beaches and excellent road quality.

France was ranked in sixth place with a rating of 8.40 out of 10. With excellent road infrastructure and well-maintained toll roads, tourists found driving in France to be generally enjoyable.

In seventh place, with a rating of 8.39 out of 10, are Croatian roads. Tourists say that this country boasts incredible scenery, beautiful beaches and warm weather. As for the quality of Croatian roads, they say that the country has a very well-maintained road infrastructure, which makes for a pleasant experience for car users form abroad.

We have to say we’d agree. If there’s one thing Croatia does well, it’s the roads. Despite the often undulating, rugged landscapes through which these roads wind, no compromise is made on the smoothness. Be it the flat, endless plains of Slavonia or the rugged mountains of the Dalmatian coast, you can more or less always guarantee a pleasant driving experience on Croatian roads.
