Game of Thrones may be filming elsewhere this year, but Dubrovnik welcomes another American film crew, this time from NBC.
After seeing film crews working in their city, many people in Dubrovnik though that HBO has returned to continue with the shooting of the sixth season of the Game of Thrones. However, the filming being done is actually for a different TV series and a different TV network. The NBC film crew has started shooting a new series called Emerald City, and they are currently filming scenes by the sea in the park at Pile, reports Dubrovacki.hr on November 4, 2015.
The first season of the series will include 10 episodes which are based on the famous children’s book “The Wizard of Oz”. Although the original plan was for the series premiere to be broadcast this year, NBC has announced that the premiere had been moved to the next year. Executive producers of the series are David Schulner, Shaun Cassiy and Matt Arnold, while the cast includes Adria Arjona, known for her role as Emily in the True Detective series which is broadcast on HBO.
Although the series is based on a book written in 1899, NBC has introduced some modern modifications, so the viewers will see a completely new “Land of Oz”. One of the changes is the age of the main character, with Dorothy being aged 20, considerably older than in the original story.
Even though many people thought that HBO has returned to Croatia, that has not happened. Dubrovnik, King’s Landing from the Game of Thrones, has now become another fantasy city for another American TV series.
