Roundabout in front of the centre was not constructed in accordance with issued permits
Project Mall of Split just can’t seem to catch a break (read this as “maybe they should have followed the rules from the beginning”). Inspection from the Ministry of Civil Engineering and Physical Planning has issued (but not yet served) an order which is asking the investor to adjust the access road leading to the centre so it is in accordance with the law and they have 90 days to fix the problem. As it turns out, investors got a little carried away during the construction of the roundabout leading to the centre. To save some money on not buying enough land from private owners surrounding the centre, they built the roundabout a lot smaller than the law demands and way smaller than what the issued permit was asking for.
Inspection has been keeping an eye on the construction site for quite some time now, collecting evidence, checking issued permits with the investors, construction companies and the city administration and it all culminated with the issuance of the above stated order.
This order means that the investor has to either apply for new permits, which will be in accordance with the current state or fix the problematic roundabout to fit the existing permit. Until they do, investors will not get the operating license for the largest shopping mall in this region.
Considering the amount of traffic expected in the area, and given that this is the only access road to the mall which connects it to the already overcrowded Vukovarska street in Split, it was hard to imagine investors ever thought it would suffice and that someone from the institutions would sit still and let it all happen without a warning.
So, in conclusion, shoppers will have to wait a bit longer for the opening of their new shopping shrine (and the last opening date advertised was November 12). As for the traffic jam which is bound to start happening on Vukovarska after the opening regardless of the size of the roundabout, it seems everyone has decided to deal with it later.
