“Mall of Split” Will Not Receive Necessary Permits For At Least Another 15 Days

More opening delays for Mall of Split.

Instead of unprecedented crowds and queues of cars that would certainly form at the entrance to the Mall of Split shopping centre on Mejaši, which was scheduled to be opened yesterday, the construction site is rather quiet today. Especially in Vukovar Street, where a road to the shopping facility has still not been completed. The machines have stopped and the workers have briefly withdrawn, with flowers and candles placed at the site of the death of their colleague, an unfortunate reminder of the tragic event that took place on Tuesday afternoon, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on November 13, 2015.

The investors of the centre decided to cancel the grand opening at the last minute, although it has been clear for days that there will be no grand opening, since the facility has not yet passed inspection. But, until the very last moment, workers on the ground were doing everything possible to finish with the construction works. But now, when the deadline has come and gone, they will not have to work so hastily and will be able to bring the project to its conclusion in due course.

The new date for the opening of the centre is a question that at this point no one knows the answer to, although some tenants claim that might happen next Thursday, 19 November. However, even that deadline will probably pass, because the city authorities have announced for 20 November a public inquiry about the issue of access roads.

That is the earliest date that a location permit for the surrounding roads can be issued, and only after that can the investors make a request for final permit and for technical inspection. Representatives of the Mall of Split indicated that the centre will open when they receive all the permits, without specifying a date, but it could probably not happen before early December.

The tenants did not want to comment whether the investors will have to pay any penalties for late opening. One of the largest tenants, “Inditex” group which has under its auspices in Croatia “Zara”, “Bershka”, “Stradivarius”, “Pull&Bear”, “Massimo Dutti”, “Zara Home” and “Oysho”, sent the following answer: “We are ready to open all stores of our group in the new shopping centre Mall of Split, and in accordance with company policies we will not have special discounts at the opening. Also, we are unable to comment on the agreement with our partners, as well as on the date of the opening of the new centre.”
