August the 21st, 2025 – Dubrovnik has been declared the safest city in Europe, with an enviably low crime rate to boast of.

Croatia is well known globally for being one of the safest countries in Europe and indeed the world. Even its capital city boasts an atmosphere that lends itself to walking around at night without any fear. One southern Croatian city that has had the world head over heels in love with it for decades now however is the clear winner, not only in Croatia, but in all of Europe.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, according to various surveys and lists, at least one Croatian city is always among the safest in the entire continent. In the latest survey, Dubrovnik has now been declared the safest city in Europe. This was confirmed by the popular Numbeo’s analysis based on current crime rates and their changes over the past five years. Dubrovnik received a very impressive score of 44.14.

According to the data compiled, the crime rate in Dubrovnik stands at only 8.76, which is classified as “very low”, while the increase in crime over the past five years was rated as “low”. Dubrovnik as the safest city in Europe won’t come as much of a surprise to anyone who has ever spent time there. Even during the very height of summer when the city is thronged with tourists from all over the globe, it still feels perfectly safe. That safety and security is the perfect addition to the entire Dubrovnik area’s stunningly beautiful nature, ancient architecture and rich culture and history.

The Estonian capital Tallinn came in second place, the Polish city of Warsaw came in third, while Prague and Krakow rounded out the top five. City Magazine also reported that several larger European cities such as Amsterdam, Munich, Reykjavik, Zurich and Budapest were also on the list of the safest in Europe.
