November the 17th, 2024 – Šibenik’s Iskra shipyard is set to constructed the largest hybrid dock in the entire region as part of a 30 million euro strategic investment plan.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Šibenik’s Iskra shipyard has contracted an impressive job in the form of the construction of a new hybrid floating dock – the largest in the region. It will be 110 metres long and boast a carrying capacity of 4,000 tonnes.

The contract for the construction of the floating dock for Šibenik’s Iskra shipyard was signed in Varna by Roko Vuletić, President of the Board of Directors of the Šibenik Shipyard, and Danail Slavov, General Manager of the Terem – Shipyard Flotski Arsenal – Varna shipyard, which was entrusted with the construction of the floating dock.

This is the largest investment from a wider strategic investment plan worth more than 30 million euros, which the aforementioned Šibenik shipyard announced after the recent decision of the government to extend their maritime domain concession until 2054. By putting the dock into operational use, the Iskra shipyard will cover a segment that it has not covered so far: the overhaul of almost all of Jadrolinija’s ships, yachts longer than 70 metres and brand new vessels that will be built for the Croatian Navy.

The future floating dock will have a maximum length of 115 metres and a width of 32.4 metres. It will be able to accommodate all types of vessels and floating objects up to 100 metres in length and a dock weight of up to 4,000 tonnes. Delivery is expected in spring 2027. The project was designed by the company Norden Shipdesign House from Turkey, and the floating dock has been designed as a concrete pontoon consisting of seven sections, with double-shell steel side towers.

“The signing of this contract is an important step for Šibenik’s Iskra shipyard in the continued development of our location into a unique, modern and environmentally friendly shipbuilding and repair centre of excellence in the Mediterranean. This project is an excellent example of a hybrid dock that combines the best of steel and concrete technology. With its modular structure, hybrid energy system and focus on operational efficiency, it will set a completely new standard across the entire region,” concluded Roko Vuletić, CEO of the Iskra Shipyard.
