December the 2nd, 2025 – In addition to Makarska, Dubrovnik will host the popular WTA Tournament next year. The WTA Dubrovnik Open will be held from March the 23rd to the 29th, 2026.

For the first time in history, Croatia can proudly boast of having two WTA tournaments – along with Makarska, Dubrovnik will also host this top women’s tennis tournament next year. The WTA Dubrovnik Open was recently officially announced by Feliks Lukas, director of the WTA Makarska Open, who received the license to hold the latest of these sports events.

“For the 20th anniversary of the tournament, we’ve made a historic step forward and brought another WTA license to Croatia, and to one of the most beautiful destinations of all. Dubrovnik, with its global recognition, is a natural partner for such a project. The WTA Dubrovnik Open will be an important platform for Croatian tennis players, as well as a very strong international promotional event that will connect sport, tourism and the local community. I’m sure that just like Makarska, Dubrovnik will very soon become one of the favourite destinations for female players at the highest level,” said Lukas, representative of all WTA category 125 tournaments across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The WTA Dubrovnik Open will be held from March the 23rd to the 29th, 2026, at the courts of the Dubrovnik Tennis Club in beautiful Lapad. It will be the very first European WTA 125 tournament after the US Tour and the event that opens the spring season of professional clay court tournaments. In Croatia, the season will also close with the WTA Makarska Open, a tournament that traditionally takes place in the first week of June.

“For the first time ever, we’ve been able to organise a professional tournament from the WTA calendar, the world’s most prestigious women’s tennis organisation. I’m thrilled that we’ve managed to position Dubrovnik on the global tennis map. I’d like to thank Mayor Mato Franković and Dubrovnik-Neretva County Prefect Blaž Pez for recognising the importance of this sport and tourism event. Many thanks also go to Feliks Lukas for choosing Dubrovnik and helping us get the green light to organise such a tournament. This tournament is important for young Croatian tennis players who will get the opportunity to perform on the global stage, and we are especially happy that Dubrovnik’s local players – Ana Konjuh and Lucija Ćirić Bagarić – will also be playing. The image of our city will travel the world,” stated Marjan Konjuh, president of the Dubrovnik Tennis Club and father of tennis player Ana Konjuh, emphasising that this is a historic moment for Dubrovnik tennis.

The sheer level of importance of this new tennis tournament has also been duly recognised by Dubrovnik-Neretva County as a whole.

“We’re more than sure that this tournament will have a strong positive impact on the entire county, and that Dubrovnik-Neretva County, with the realisation of all infrastructure prerequisites, will become an unavoidable destination on the global tennis map for years to come as of now,” stated Blaž Pezo, the Dubrovnik-Neretva County Prefect.

Mato Franković: added value for dubrovnik during the pre-season

The City of Dubrovnik sees the upcoming Dubrovnik WTA tournament as a very important step forward in the city’s sport and tourism offer.

“We’re both thrilled and honoured that Dubrovnik will be the city to host such a significant tennis competition that will bring together the world’s best female tennis players and open the European spring season of professional tournaments on clay courts. The WTA Dubrovnik Open will absolutely enrich the city’s cultural and sport offer during the pre-season and create additional value for the tourism sector. I believe that this unique project has the opportunity to grow into a new, recognisable sports tradition of the city, to the pride of all our fellow citizens and to the benefit of the entire Croatian tennis community. We’re truly looking forward to once again sending a beautiful message out to the rest of the world, about Dubrovnik as a city of sport,” concluded Mayor Mato Franković.
