March the 14th, 2026 – The City of Zagreb is set to launch a 3 million euro traffic portal which will allow the general public to be better informed about the current traffic situation.
As Index vijesti/news writes, the City of Zagreb has launched a public procurement procedure for the development of the Traffic Portal. It will be a digital platform that should consolidate all of the current traffic data across the city and enable its analysis and exchange between city services and the public.
The project envisages the development of a system that will collect traffic data from various sources, including road sensors, cameras, the public transport system, as well as real-time data on bicycle and pedestrian traffic. The city has stated that this should enable more detailed analyses and a better understanding of traffic flows across Zagreb.
an app for the use of the general public

The current plan is to also develop a user interface accessible via both a website and a mobile application. With that, the general public should be able to monitor all current traffic information, report any traffic problems, and use various e-services related to traffic through one single app or website on their phones and computers.
The new Zagreb traffic portal would, among other things, enable full traffic monitoring at key intersections via real-time video transmission and offer a review of information on temporary traffic regulations for public transport vehicles and personal vehicles alike.
a handy tool for important city services

The new Zagreb traffic portal will also be intended for city officials and competent institutions. The future system will be integrated with all existing city solutions, including the Traffic Management Centre, public bike system, parking systems and of course, public transport systems. The collected data will also be exchanged with other institutions, such as the National Access Point and the services of Zagreb Electric Tram (ZET).
The city has revealed that the new Zagreb traffic portal will provide city services with a tool for traffic monitoring, data analysis, simulation of traffic scenarios and decision-making. To inform drivers, the current plan is to install variable traffic signs at sixteen different locations across the city. They would display information about the traffic situation in real time.
The city states that this should enable drivers to react in a timely manner without needing to use any mobile devices while driving, which is illegal and puts lives at serious risk.
a three million euro project

The future Zagreb traffic portal will be an additional module of the Traffic Management Centre and part of the further digitalisation of communication between the general public and the city services.
“The development of a comprehensive Traffic Portal for the City of Zagreb represents a strategic step towards the modernisation of the city’s infrastructure and improving the quality of life of everyone. The portal will integrate data from various sources and provide a comprehensive insight into the traffic situation in real time,” said Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević.
The value of the public procurement is three million euros excluding VAT, and the planned duration of the project is nine months.
