October the 2nd, 2026 – A Croatian man has pushed a Serbian man into the sea in Makarska for refusing to remove a Crvena Zvezda (Red Star) shirt, and Hajduk fans have paid his fine.
The Society of Friends of Hajduk Makarska announced via its official Facebook page that the full amount needed to cover the fine and court costs for their member has been successfully collected. Index reports that the Croatian man was fined after he pushed a man, a citizen of Serbia wearing a Red Star Belgrade (Crvena Zvezda) football club shirt, into the sea on the Makarska waterfront. In their post, the Makarska fan association stated that their member “enabled a certain tourist from abroad to swim.”
The incident received a legal epilogue at the misdemeanour court, where the 43-year-old attacker was given a fine (between 700 and 4,000 euros) for disturbing public order and peace, after which he was released. However, a subsequent police investigation led to an unusual turn of events in which the attacked man himself ended up behind bars.
By reviewing his social media profiles, police officers established that the mentioned Serb had, in earlier public posts, glorified the convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić and also insulted Croatia and its citizens with derogatory content. Because of these offences, the attacked man was sentenced to 14 days in prison.
