October the 3rd, 2026 – Zadar is set to become connected year-round, with winter flights to Munich now confirmed, and expansion to Paris, London or Venice being actively eyed.
The new year-round air route between Zadar and Munich should be only the beginning of the further expansion of Zadar’s air connectivity with Europe, County Prefect Josip Bilaver said in response to journalists’ questions after a working meeting at the Zadar County House with Croatian Roads Management Board President Ivica Budimir and associates. O23 reports how Bilaver recalled that the possibility of introducing a year-round connection was announced about a year ago, and that operations during the winter months have now also been confirmed. He emphasised that the first reactions from citizens have been extremely positive.
“Munich is a major international air hub from which you can continue travelling practically to the entire world. Our wish is to have more such routes and we believe this should only be the beginning,” Bilaver said. He added that talks have already been held with other airlines, as well as with Croatia Airlines, and that further expansion of the year-round route offer is expected next year.
“As a county, together with the tourist boards, cities and municipalities and the tourism sector, we are ready to support such projects. Representatives of the tourism sector already several months ago expressed their readiness to participate in co-financing the routes. When we have concrete routes and proposals, we will also discuss concrete amounts,” the Prefect announced. He stressed that year-round air connectivity is important not only for tourism, but also for better connecting the residents of Zadar County with the rest of Europe and indeed the world.
“A good indicator will be precisely the Munich route, for which we expect good occupancy. After that we will see whether there is a possibility of connecting Zadar with some other major European centre. Split, for example, has a connection with Rome, but I believe there is no need for us to compete with them on the same route in the winter period. I would like Zadar to get a connection with some other major European centre such as Venice, Paris or London and thus further expand its year-round connectivity,” County Prefect Bilaver concluded.
