Three winners at the 39th Split Salon awards.
On the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Croatian Association of Visual Artists, the names of the winning artists of the 39th Split Salon were announced. This year’s Split Salon had a goal to present the current state of the art scene in Split and include as many members of the association as possible. Therefore, traditional Emanuel Vidović award has been replaced with three equal awards given by the expert jury and presented by Vice Tomasović, president of the Split branch of the Croatian Association of Visual Artists. The awards were won by Gildo Bavčević, Dino Bićanić and Petar Jakelić. They will have an opportunity to exhibit their works in several Croatian galleries, reports Dalmatinski Portal on November 26, 2015.
Jakelić said that this was the most important award he has ever received. “For me personally, there could be no better prize that to have an exhibition at the Art Gallery. It really means a lot to me, especially in Split because I live here. Given all that I have done, there is no venue large enough which could present all of my works”, Jakelić said.
The head of the Croatian Association of Visual Artists expressed his satisfaction with this year’s Split Salon. “The two main goals were to develop art criticism and to present the Split art scene, and I think we have been successful. I am very pleased that we have been able to organize such a significant event to celebrate 70 years of existence of our association”, Tomasović said.
The exhibition at the Salon Galić will stay open for another two weeks, and during that time a catalogue of this year’s event will be presented. The catalogue will include introductory articles by curators Dalibor Prančević, Boris Šitum and Božo Kesić, art criticism articles, art reviews by numerous authors, as well as a presentation of all the exhibited works.
The 39th Split Salon brought together 130 artists with more than 160 works on the topic of “Representations of Split”, including paintings, prints, sculptures, installations, performances and video-art works. The works of artists may be seen at the Kula Gallery, Salon Galić and Diocletian’s Palace basement until the end of this month.
