With all the rumours about possible reshuffle in the ruling coalition, it seems that everybody is ready to talk with almost anybody.
“Everything that Milanović tried to do has been forgotten and we are open to cooperation about everything that is in the interest of the citizens of this country”, said Nikola Grmoja, one of the founders of MOST, in an interview earlier today. This is the first time that someone from MOST openly said that doors for SDP were open. And it seems that the main opposition party does not have anything against such proposal, reports tportal.hr on April 26, 2016.
Peđa Grbin (SDP) was asked whether he considered this statement as an invitation to possible cooperation. “After four months of spending time with HDZ, MOST has changed its mind and when I read the interview, I believe his words can be best summarized with – Zoran Milanović, save us! SDP has never closed the doors to talks and cooperation with political parties that foster democratic outlook and a commitment to a democratic and pluralistic society. Therefore, we have never closed the doors to cooperation with MOST, but today MOST must finally decide what it wants”, said Grbin.
So far, there has been no direct invitation for talks, and the question is how SDP would react if the invitation came, especially in the light of speculation about possible reshuffle of the government coalition. Grbin said that SDP would not refuse to talk, but there would be no discussion about any tripartite partnership.
“It would be our obligation to come to the talks. However, there can be no discussion with HDZ as it exists today, since it is a revisionist party which endangers media freedom. Still, I think that I am not the only one in Croatian politics who believes that new elections are the only just and fair solution”, said Grbin.
SDP president Zoran Milanović commented last week about possible talks with MOST. He pointed out that it was MOST which left the negotiations at the very last moment. “I do not know whether that MOST exists anymore and who are these people. We were accused of trying to break up MOST, which we did not do, and now that is precisely what is happening to them”, said Milanović.
After yesterday’s statements by Ivan Kovačić (MOST) that his cooperation with HDZ was finished, there are some who say he might possibly cross over to SDP.
“Four months ago, SDP was accused of trying to take away some of MOST’s MPs, which was allegedly the reason for the termination of negotiations. Today, when Milan Bandić is openly doing that, it is not a problem anymore. Mr. Kovačić has enough knowledge and experience to decide with whom he will cooperate in politics, and he can explain it to the public himself”, said Grbin.
