After a great performance at Močvara nearly two years ago, it was only a matter of time when Damien Jurado would return to Zagreb. Damien Jurdado will play Močvara in Zagreb on 7.7 as part of the warm up concerts being held for SuperUho Festival this year.
Damien Jurado is an important, though not too exposed, artist in the American independent singer-songwriter scene. His musical journey began in his room in the mid 90s, recording works on tape, using the simplest equipment which at the time was even considered primitive. Playing and enjoying the raw aesthetic roots of blues and folk music from the era of the 40s and 50s, Damien was already on the first cassette release of his own label Casa Recordings, already a clearly visible talent in reciting the emotions and views on life through moving unvarnished organic music and strong poetry.
With his charisma and purity in musical expression, Damien found himself gaining a cult following in Seattle. Soon after, more important artists began to follow, outgrowing local boundaries and joining cult record label Sub Pop in 1997. Sub Pop released his first and second albums “Waters Ave S” and “Rehearsals for Departure”.
His passion for lo-fi sound recording and music has created what he calls “Found sound” and “filed recording”. One of his most interesting issues with found sound is on “Postcards and Audio Letters” by Damien, recorded by audio recordings of letters / messages collected from research gathered from old answering machines and old voice recorders. The collected material is blended in an authentic sound collage, enriching the whole story with recording on magnetic tape.
Damien has released 12 studio albums and a handful of EPs and singles, which are mainly published by two large independent labels, Sub Pop, and his current publisher Secretly Canadian which has just published “Visions of Us on the Land”.
This concert is, along with concerts by the likes of Calexico and Mac DeMarco, a part of the warm up concerts being held in preparation for SuperUho festival in Primošten.
