Warm days and evenings, vacation and a glass of good wine in good company are summer imperatives. The choice of the perfect wine has an important detail – quenching thirst and offering refreshment when the forecast offers none. The best choice are mild and easy wines, more acidic than sweet, so they won’t make you more thirsty, while a fruity aroma is favoured to entice your senses
If you’re setting off for the coast or the mountains, you no longer need to bother with choosing the best wines to take along with you. Choose some off the list published by Tportal.hr on July 8, 2016.
Toljanić, Žlahtina 2015 = 6 Euro
A golden-green light wine, fresh aroma with lime tones, pineapple, violets and mowed grass – if this wine sounds perfect for summer evenings, you’re completely right.
Žlahtina is an authentic Croatian sort, while the Toljanić family grows it on 120 acres in the Vrbnik valley on Krk island – no wonder this wine has the protection of the “Authentic Croatian” brand.
Ivančić, Rizvanac 2014 = 7.9 Euro
Rizvanac, also called the Muller-Thurgau, is a known sort in the north of Europe, while the young winemaker Krešimir Ivančić grows it on the slopes of the Plešivica mountain. In creating the wine he uses a maceration process that provides a rounded body and accents its natural aromas.
Just looking at a glass of this yellowish-green Rizvanac will refresh you and win you over with a flower scent and fruity tones of apricot, peach, apple and black currant.
Josić, Graševina superior 2014 = 7.9 Euro
Another familiar sort in the region is the Graševina, an excellent choice in the summer months by the Josić family, an Osijek winery that bought its 1935 cellars at the end of the last century, winning over the hearts and glasses of wine consumers in the country and abroad.
A favourite Slavonian wine popular among the younger audience, characterised by a greenish yellow colour that gains a golden shine with time. The taste is full and acidic, which together with tones of green apple, honey, mushrooms and apricots makes it an interesting and refreshing choice.
Graševina Galić 2015 = 7.9 Euro
The most renown region for wines is Kutjevo, where on the hills around Požega wines enjoy a mild climate bathed in sun. In every bottle you will find a Graševina carefully selected from the best locations of this area.
Superior dry wine from the Galić winery reminds of pineapple, green apples and domestic vineyard peaches, with dried hay and chamomile as special spices.
Jerković, Kujunđuša 2015 = 7.5 Euro
The green-yellow Kujunđuša Jerković is characterised by a mild taste and aromas that reminds of citrus fruits, peaches, salt and tomato leaves, making it an excellent choice for warm days.
The winery is in Runovići near Imotski, an area known for winemaking since ancient Rome. Only two sorts are produced, both authentic – the Kujunđuša and the Red Rudežuša.
