After several days of arguments, everything is set for the People’s Coalition to sign its agreement on Saturday.
After second round of talks in the last 24 hours, HNS and SDP have reached an agreement about joint participation in the upcoming elections. The coalition agreement between members of the People’s Coalition (SDP, HNS, HSS and HSU) will be signed on Saturday, reports Index.hr on July 14, 2016.
The Prefect of Varaždin County and HNS vice president Predrag Štromar confirmed that the agreement with SDP had been reached. “I can say that we have agreed everything with our coalition partners. We want to achieve the best possible result in all parliamentary constituencies and we want our coalition, the People’s Coalition, to have the position of Prime Minister in the next government. Today we have agreed everything, there were some small changes from last time”, said Štromar.
He confirmed that in the third constituency, HNS would have six out of 14 places on the candidate list. The third constituency was the main reason for disagreements, because SDP had offer just five place for HNS members. However, SDP apparently relented and decided to offer HNS the sixth position as well.
“There have been some small changes, but essentially we have made such an agreement that will allow us to use synergy to achieve the best possible results and get between 10 and 12 MPs more than in the last elections. HNS itself will probably stay at having seven MPs, and we will have to fight for the eight one. That is our task, and we will do it”, concluded Štromar.
Today’s meeting and agreement were the continuation of yesterday’s emergency meeting which was called after HNS publicly said it was not satisfied with SDP’s offer and was ready to leave the coalition and go to the polls independently.
Štromar was revolted by SDP’s behaviour in connection with the distribution of places on candidate lists. He threatened that HNS was ready to go its separate way, which would significantly reduce SDP’s chances to win at the elections in September. However, after meetings on Wednesday and Thursday, it seems that all differences has been resolved and that SDP, HNS and other smaller parties will be part of the same coalition.
