Once the Gateway to the Islands, Split is becoming one of Europe’s hottest destinations. And the international media are paying attention.
These are fantastic times for the tourism chiefs in the Dalmatian capital of Split. In just a few short years, the city has become transformed from a mere transit route to fashionable islands such as Hvar, Brac, Solta and Vis, or else a spectacular beach-laden mainland coastline with endless summer sun and some of the cleanest water in the world, but these days Split is much more of a hip destination than a transit point.
The latest international media to document the rise of Split’s tourism fortunes is popular website Mashable, which included the city in its list of 12 places to go this year in an article on January 4, 2016. Here is what they had to say:
“Split has Europe’s ambiance with Croatia’s unique flair.
“Split, Croatia’s second largest city, has at its center Diocletian’s Palace, built by the Roman emperor in the fourth century. Surrounding the palace is a seaside city that is only going to get more popular with visitors. The vibrant blues of the Adriatic Sea and red-roofed architecture are too inviting to ignore.
“The architectural marvel of a city center is also surrounded by the lovely Croatian climate; a day hike or boat trip to a quiet beach should definitely be on the itinerary.”
