Total Croatia News

Split beat Dubrovnik, Hvar and Šibenik by 1 point.

City of Split is the winner of this year’s Tourism Patrol campaign run by Večernji list. During the patrol, an undercover reporter visits tourist destinations on the Croatian Adriatic coast as a secret guest and rates all the cities based on the same service quality assessment criteria. Out of the maximum 100 points, Split was the absolute tourism champion with 93 points, followed by Dubrovnik, Hvar and Šibenik in 2nd place with 92 points.

Split got maximum 10 points for Hospitality services, cultural/ adventure / recreational facilities and activities as well as for inventiveness/ originality / autochthonous offer and shopping facilities, 9 points for upkeep / appearance / cleanliness, quality and diversity of accommodation, general impression while the lowest score – 8 points was given for beach amenities and cleanliness.

We asked the mayor of Split Ivo Baldasar to comment this new accolade and here is what he had to say: „This award is no accident. It is a result of almost thirty years of hard work and dedication and I have to thank our former tourist board director Vedran Matošić for his vision and perseverance. I am very proud of this award because Tourism Patrol works on the „secret shopper“principle so there is no way to influence the final result. Our entire city is now working on creating a memorable tourist destination; we all want to do our part to make our city even better for our guests. Ultra has done a lot for the promotion but we must not forget everyone else involved. Our airport, ferry port, public services, police….And with 10 new hotels in the works, we can say Split has a very bright future in tourism“
