Scandinavia and Croatia cooperate once again for the Nordic Festival, taking place from September 15 to 17 in Zagreb. This year, the Scandinavian country represented will be Sweden. Swedish Association ‘Aurora’ is this year’s organizer – preparing the festival with music, literature, food, lifestyle, and old fairy tales..
The Nordic Festival is in conjunction with the rock program “Good Vibrations”, with music opening on September 15 at Vintage Industrial Bar in Zagreb. Performances on this night will be equipped with local audiences from two well-known local bands, Drvored and Chui, along with two visiting Swedish bands – Sleepwulf and Royal Prospect.
Sleepwulf is a band from Kristiansand that draws inspiration from music from the 70’s. Royal Prospect comes from the south of Sweden from the city of Lomme. Their music has been described as “soft rock”. Both bands have already played in Zagreb with their outstanding performances at INmusic festival.
This continuation of cooperation between the Swedish Association “Studieframjandet” and Good Vibrations has resulted in nearly 3 years and 30 bands that have played in Sweden or Croatia. Tickets are available for presale for 25 kn and can be bought at Dirty Old Shop (Tratinska 18). The day of the concert tickets are 40 kn.
On Friday, September 16, Kava Tava on Tkalčićeva Street will host one of the most famous young writers, Srđan Sandić who has prepared a lecture on Swedish crime novels. For the entire duration of the festival at Kava Tava, Swedish staple dishes such as Swedish pancakes with berries, sandwiches with smoked salmon, cinnamon rolls, and more will be available to taste. Admission is free.
On Saturday, September 17, the Ethnographic Museum hosts “Bajkopričaonica”. The program is about a magical story with Scandinavian “magical beings”. Visitors are also looking forward to the art workshop by Nikolina Stanišić “In the Clouds” held at the Center for Creative Development. Admission is free.
The touch of Sweden for this year’s Nordic festival comes courtesy of the Association of Croatian-Swedish friendship ‘Aurora’, which was established in 2013. The aim of the Association is to connect Croatia and Sweden, encouraging friendship and cultural ties between Croatian and Swedish peoples; a mutual knowledge of history and modern life between Croatia and Sweden; and a closer look into the Swedish and Croatian culture, science, history and language.
