Total Croatia News

An important contribution to infomation about bird migration patterns, and you can play your part.

The 50th annual international waterbird census concludes on January 17, 2016, with the Croatian Society for the Protection of Birds once more taking part. Information generated through the census has enabled 5 million km2 of critical areas for waterbirds to be identified. The status of 871 waterbird species is regularly assessed using data from the census to support prioritising conservation action.

Anyone can take part, just go to the nearest body of water and count what birds you see, then send the results to the Croatian Society for the Protection of Birds.

The Croatian society is part of an international effort to establish better knowledge of waterbird migration routes and resting areas.

Croatia is an important part of the bird migration route, with many national parks and protected areas, like Kopački Rit in the North and the Neretva Delta in the south.
