Slovenian army will put up garden fence instead.

Slovenian army has removed 600 metres of metal razor wire fence on the Croatian-Slovenian border at Hum na Sutli. In its place, it has started preparing poles for putting up a garden fence, reports zagorje.com on January 26, 2017.

Slovenian razor wire fence, which was constructed on the border with Croatia more than a year ago, has provoked substantial protests among residents of the Municipality of Hum na Sutli. That is the area where Slovenian army yesterday removed a part of the razor wire fence, at a section about 400 metres long on one side of the border crossing and about 200 metres on the other side. Today, it is putting up poles for a garden wire fence, which will soon replace the current razor wire fence.

As a border municipality, Hum na Sutli has numerous connections with the neighbouring Municipality of Rogatec in Slovenia. Both Croats and Slovenes have their agricultural land on both sides of the border and are accustomed to daily migration and peaceful coexistence.

That was the reason why Municipal Mayor of Hum na Sutli Zvonko Jutriša and Mayor of Rogatec Martin Mikolič, ever since the razor wire fence was constructed, pressured official Slovenian state institutions to have the razor wire removed, and their efforts have now borne fruit.

“The removal of the razor wire fence is a result of good neighbourly relations between our two municipalities. I must commend Mayor Mikolič because we have jointly managed to convince Slovenian state institutions to remove this inappropriate razor wire fence which was an eyesore for us every day. Hum na Sutli and Rogatec are in reality one town, which is called Hum na Sutli on one side of the border and Rogatec on the other. And the town was cut in half with the razor wire. Now, the time has finally come for the razor wire to be removed and replaced with a garden wire fence which will be more appropriate”, said Mayor Jutriša.
