To be honest, not so much different…
What was Split like in the past? Because this is something I think about often, I decided to do a little research and came across a video displaying life in Split in the 1950s.
I think back on this time often because my grandparents and father were still living in Split before embarking on their journey to the United States. Every time I speak to my grandmother who resides in the United States, we share stories about my life in Split today compared to her young life in the city of Diocletian – but trying to envision just what it was like has never come easy.
While today we think of Split with crowds of tourists, coffee drinkers, and ice cream cones parading the ancient alleyways, we also think of green market patrons, fish market enthusiasts, and the many of us who love a simple stroll through the palace walls.
After watching this video, Split in the 1950s doesn’t look so much different from today. Enjoy!
