In Flos Olei 2017, the prestigious guide to extra virgin olive oils, Istria has been proclaimed as the best olive oil region in the world for the second consecutive year.
Flos Olei is a bilingual Italian-English guide to the world’s best extra virgin olive oils, highly recognized in the world of gastronomy. The guide presents the 500 best olive growing sectors in 50 countries across 5 continents, with a description of the regions and a general overview of the history, culture, and production. Manufacturers of the best olive oils, including 60 from Istria, were presented across the 864 pages of the guide, reports HRTurizam on March 10, 2017.
This year the guide included 12 new Istrian olive oils and those who have been included in the catalog in the past received even better grades this year. This is not only evidence of the good olive growing year in Istria, but also shows that the technological process for making olive oil has improved.
“In this year’s edition over two thousand specimens from around the world were received from 5 continents, and the final selection of 500 samples included as many as 60 samples from Istria, or 12 percent. For Istria this is really fascinating information that did not break overnight, but is a result of the dedicated work by Istrian olive growers,” said director of the Tourist Board of Istria County – Denis Ivošević.
“For the second year in a row our region ranks first in the world, in front of the famous Italian region of Tuscany and the Spanish Andalusia,” concluded Ivošević.
