Despite all the problems, government has enough time to look for a four-year-old iPad.
Cabinet secretary of the current government led by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković sent a letter in early April to the home address of former Prime Minister Zoran Milanović, demanding that he urgently returns to the government’s headquarters an official tablet, reports 24sata.hr on April 18, 2017.
Cabinet secretary Andreja Gabrijel wrote to her former boss, for whom she worked from 2011 to January 2016. “Dear Mr. Milanović, during an annual inventory of the government headquarters, it has been found that Apple iPad Cellular 64GB Black has not been returned. It was purchased for your needs as the then Prime Minister. Therefore, we ask you to return the device as soon as possible. Sincerely, cabinet secretary Andrija Gabrijel.”
Attached to the letter are two additional documents: an order to purchase iPad dated 11 March 2013 and an invoice dated 18 March in the amount of 7,837 kuna including VAT. However, there is an important document missing: a certificate signed by Milanović which would be a proof that he did indeed took over the tablet. How did then Ms. Gabrijel concluded that the tablet was with Milanović? On the two documents mentioned in the letter someone wrote by hand “Prime Minister of Croatia”. The order for purchase states: “We ask you to send a purchase order for Prime Minister…”.
Former Prime Minister Milanović confirmed that he did indeed receive the letter demanding that he should return an iPad. “I am not happy with the tone of the letter. There is not a single proof that I took or used the tablet four years ago. I want to believe that the Plenković’s government has more important things to do than to try to find an iPad at the wrong address. But, if that is really so important to them and if that would help them, I am ready to pay the cost of the iPad less depreciation, regardless of the fact that iPad is not here.”
