A trial competition in robotics was organised as an introduction to Croatia Open World Educational Robot Contest
Croatian Makers, the organisation bringing STEM revolution to Croatian schools, organised a trial competition in robotics for all schools participating in WER – Croatia Open, part of WER International Open.
A total of 58 primary and secondary schools and associations in Croatia are included in the project. By the end of May, Croatian Makers donated sets to all of them so they can try them and prepare for the competition. The participants were asked to program their robots to perform complex tasks, such as move objects from point A to point B, make wheels turn, transport cargo, and others.
It was an introduction into WER – Croatia Open, which will take place in Croatia early next school year, with teams from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia participating. WER is an international robot contest for teenagers from 4 to 18. Annually, more than 500,000 participants from 30 countries participate in WER contests. Open Cups are held in the USA, Canada, Australia, and a second European Cup is held in Spain. Winning teams of all Open Cups will travel to the main competition in Shanghai in November.
The trial competition was held in Eugen Kumičić Primary School in Velika Gorica on June 26. Eleven teams participated in the competition, while the remaining associations and schools involved in the project solved the tasks online and submitted the videos of the tasks.
