Croatian Peasant Party of Zagreb (HSS Zagreb) has held a press conference today in front of the main entrance of the Svetice pool complex about the issue of closed indoor swimming pools in Zagreb and a generally small number of swimming pools in Zagreb, reports MojZagreb.info.
During these unbearably hot summer days, the city pools are a place where people can cool off, especially those who cannot afford to go to the seaside or those who have already visited the seaside. Unfortunately, the indoor swimming pools at Svetice and Mladost indoor and outdoor pools are closed these days and are not available to citizens of Zagreb. The increasing number of tourists visiting Zagreb during the summer are also deprived of a summer refreshment.
HSS Zagreb deems this unacceptable and believes that something like this should not be repeated in the future. Therefore, they suggest a better organization of the future maintenance works. More precisely, they propose to shorten the amount of time necessary for maintenance works of swimming pools to a maximum of 7-14 days. They also suggest that only one pool, or two at most, are renovated and maintained at the same time.
HSS also wants the divert the attention of the mayor and the public to the issue of the small capacity of swimming pools in Zagreb. “The city of Zagreb has a total of 790,017 inhabitants according to the latest population census. According to this number of inhabitants, the European standards state that there should be one closed Olympic-sized swimming pool per 100,000 inhabitants and one smaller one (25 metres in size ) per 50,000. We believe that new pools should be one of the priorities of capital investment, not fountains or flags,” says Andrija Damjanović, Board Member of GO HSS Zagreb and Director of the Quality of Life Directorate of GO HSS Zagreb.
