The hottest week in Croatia this summer continues.
As we announced on Tuesday, Croatia will swelter under high temperatures caused by a heat wave this week.
Meteoalarm has issued red warnings for all Croatian regions, with possibilities of thundershowers and lightning in Zagreb region.
Yesterday was the hottest day in Knin since 1949 – 41.5°C, and the third day in a row that Knin has had a temperature above 40.0°C, Crometeo reported on August 3.
Pazin has also broken temperature records – after 38.8°C on Wednesday, the city recorded a scorching 39.5°C yesterday.
The same goes for Pula Airport weather station – 38.2°C measured yesterday is the highest since 1978, and Senj’s 39.0°C and Gospić’s 37.4°C are the highest August temperatures ever recorded in both cities.
The situation didn’t improve during the night either – it was mostly over 30°C, with 29.4°C in Split and 29.1°C in Senj, for example.
Today’s average should reach a sweltering 35 – 40 °C, so be careful, drink a lot of water, and don’t go out during midday unless you absolutely need to.
There’s a possibility of thunderstorms in the evening, especially along the border with Slovenia.
As if the heat weren’t enough, tomorrow is a holiday, so HAK warns drivers to be careful on the road because huge traffic jams are expected on the A1 and A6 motorways, starting Friday afternoon, and intensifying on Saturday morning.
