New Heat Wave Coming: Where will be Most Affected?

Lauren Simmonds

Get ready to feel the sun as another heat wave comes ever closer…

As Index reports on the 5th of July, 2017, we’re about to feel the wrath of the summer sunshine as the temperatures are set to rise within the next few days and the air temperature is expected to reach as much as 35 degrees celsius.

The sun is already dominating Eastern Croatia and in Baranja, Srijem and Slavonia temperatures will soar to between 29 and 31 degrees celsius with very little breeze or respite. A similar situation will occur in central Croatia and the northern Adriatic region, with the interior of Istria experiencing temperatures of between 27 and 29 degrees celsius. Things continue to heat up as we head further south with central and inland Dalmatia feeling the heat with air temperatures of between 30 and 33 degrees celsius and sea temperatures of between 23 and 25. As always, southern Croatia is the hottest with temperatures soaring to well above 30 degrees celsius.

For the upcoming weekend, the DHMZ have issued a warning to the public regarding a new heat wave that will grip the entire country, with a yellow alarm in place warning of moderate danger to health for most of the country, but an orange alarm for southern Croatia, including the Dubrovnik region where the peak of the heat wave is set to bite on Sunday, with temperatures exceeding 35+ degrees celsius in the Pearl of the Adriatic.

Make sure to stay hydrated and protected from harmful UV rays as you relax along our coastline, exercise particular caution if you’re staying in and around Dubrovnik!
