The goal that stunned us all during the Champions League final is up for one of the biggest football awards.
Remember that sensational overhead kick by Mario Mandžukić that left us all speechless during the Champions League final in June? Well, Mandžukić’s stunner is getting the respect it so very deserves and has been nominated as one of seven most spectacular goals scored in the 2016/2017 season!
The UEFA Football Committee, UEFA technical observers, and UEFA.com reporters have nominated the seven goals they think are truly the best from the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Youth League, U21 Euro, and the Women’s Euro. That being said, Mandžukić’s goal is up against Casemiro for Real Madrid, Marco Asensio for Spain, Kevin Kriesenbichler for Austria Wien, Moussa Sow for Fenerbahce, Jordi Mboula for Barcelona, and Daniela Sabatino for Italy. Only goals that have been registered in UEFA club or international fixtures have made this shortlist.
The UEFA.com contest was announced yesterday and voters have until August 29th to select their favorite goal of the season.
