On September 16th, 2017, Zagreb will host a food sustainability conference.
There is no doubt that Croatia has incredible food and produce but just like everywhere else in the world, the question of sustainability is one that should be on the forefront of everyone’s minds (hopefully one day it will be).
ZMAG, the green network of activists is holding a conference to address the matter of food sustainability “naša dobra hrana” – “our good food”. ZMAG regularly hosts engaging events, all of which are built on the premise of offering practical and relevant knowledge that can make a difference here and now, and this event will be no different. The conference will look at issues surrounding the sustainability of food production and the need for a greater awareness of the nutritional value of food and how it makes its way to our tables.
Discussions will surround how there is a need to connect customers and manufacturers to various forms of short supply chains, which provide mutual support and an understanding of the picture at large. They will present innovative and sustainable methods of food production by local organic farmers. The conference will also discuss the destructive consequences that industrial agriculture has with its pollution and control of the food system on the environment, quality of life and human health.
‘Naša dobra hrana’ wishes to explore the paths, open communication and build awareness around, the food supply – values of producers – health of consumers, as everything is integrally connected. The day begins at 10:00 and will see a host of guest speakers from Anita Šupe, nutritionist and author of the book “Truth and lies about food”, Željko Iličić, OPG Biomara Iličić, biodynamic and ecological food production, Costa Boutsikaris the director of the film INHABIT and Dražen Šimleša from the ‘Good Economy’. It will be a truly enlightening day with passionate humans talking about their areas of expertise, a lot to be learned for all interested.
On Friday 15th September 2017, there will be a showing of a feature documentary ‘INHABIT: A Permaculture Perspective’ which will take viewers through a series of real stories and live examples from the United States that indicate how permaculture is applied to practice and what beneficial and sustainable results are and remain from the use of its design. The director of the film – Costa Boutsikaris will be there to present the film and the audience will have the opportunity to speak with him after the screening. The INHABIT film is an inspirational story of changing the world for the better, here and now. The film has been translated into Croatian for the viewing, but the talk with Boutsikaris will be in English.
