New artworks by OKO on display in new exhibition “Exquisite Growth” at French Pavillion.
Exhibition of works made by the famous Zagreb artist OKO entitled “Exquisite Growth” will open this Thursday, October 19 at the French Pavillion (Savska 25 Street) at 7 pm, reports Buro247 on October 16, 2017.
OKO’s exhibition in the French Pavilion will include seven objects which touch upon the theme of human lifespan referring to the Seven Periods of Human Life by William Shakespeare.
As with all of OKO’s artworks, some of which surround the pavilion, the references don’t stop here; her works are infused with imaginary beings, half humans half animals, mythology and song lyrics which imbue the artworks with layers of meaning whose interpretation solely depends on the viewer.
The French Pavilion, a circular building with space divided into three parts, for the purpose of the exhibition will be transformed into six clear units with central, seventh unit – a protruding, elongated truncated pyramid which represents the end. Wooden frames are filled with drawings and are additionally painted over, which is characteristic of her recent works, where the artist intervenes in space by using various graphic and painting techniques. These modern assemblages, inspired by classical literary texts, are completely adapted to the location for which they are specifically created and reflect the current social situation through personal artistic intervention.
