Todorić will now be sought by police forces in 186 countries.
According to unofficial information, an international red arrest warrant has been issued against Ivica Todorić, although his photograph has still not been published on Interpol’s webpage, reports Index.hr on October 25, 2017.
The arrest warrant will be publicly disclosed if it is in the interest of the police for a larger number of people to be aware of the issuance of the arrest warrant. If the police do not want the person to know that an international arrest warrant has been issued, then the warrant is not publicly disclosed. Until today, the so-called blue warrant has been in force against Todorić, which called for information on the suspect’s location, while the red warrant demands his arrest.
The Interior Ministry reported that, “on the basis of the received European arrest warrant issued by the County State Attorney’s Office in Zagreb, the police is searching for the first-accused Croatian citizen (born in 1951) at the international level,” and is “taking all legally allowed measures with the aim of arresting the person for the purpose of ensuring the presence of the defendant in criminal proceedings.”
A red arrest warrant is valid in 186 countries which are members of Interpol, and Croatia now wants these countries to find, arrest and extradite Todorić. This kind of warrant is issued when the search at the national level does not yield results or when the police obtain information that the person is abroad.
The European arrest warrant was issued against Todorić yesterday, and the police confirmed that they were looking for him. His lawyers Jadranka Sloković and Čedo Prodanović have filed an appeal against the decision of the Zagreb County Court to keep Todorić in remand prison, but it is not expected that the Court will rule on the motion until the Agrokor owner is in the Remetinec prison. The investigation against Ivica Todorić, his sons Ivan and Ante, and 12 Agrokor’s managers and auditors was launched last week for illegally obtaining 1.142 billion kunas, with remand prison being ordered just for Ivica Todorić.
While the European arrest warrant is valid just for EU countries, the international arrest warrant has a much broader scope and has been issued in order to prevent Todorić from hiding in a country which is not a member of the European Union.
