Croatian Prime Minister says he is not naive.
Only naive people could think that Croatia is not exposed to hybrid media activity, said Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Friday in Brussels, on the eve of the summit between the EU members states and the six Eastern Partnership countries, reports Poslovni.hr on November 24, 2017.
“Just look at the topic of today’s meeting. The main topic of the Eastern Partnership meeting is hybrid media activity, with references to numerous elections and referendums held in Europe. Only naive people could think that Croatia is not part of that process,” said Plenković, answer a journalist’s question about whether a media war was being conducted in Croatia.
Plenković said he was not entirely acquainted with the media coverage of a report by the Security Intelligence Agency on possible threats to national security due to the Agrokor crisis, which was the basis for yesterday’s debate at the Parliamentary Committee on Internal Affairs and National Security.
“The Security Intelligence Agency submits reports on all issues relevant to Croatia, whether it is a security aspect in a narrow sense or economic and financial threats. The situation at Agrokor at the beginning of the year was such that it required a special law and a special engagement. Accordingly, everything which is being done at this point is focused on long-term restructuring and job sustainability, functioning of the company, generating new revenues and, of course, coming to an agreement with creditors,” said Plenković.
Reminded by reporters that the European Commission also stated that Agrokor was one of the risks for its economic forecasts, Plenković said these are very different things. “This was a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee convened at the initiative of opposition MPs, where they wanted to keep the topic in focus, as they have been doing lately. However, unlike them, the government has a very consistent position. We have found a way how to deal with this problem. There are deadlines in the law and, whether they are in April or July, we will try to reach a settlement before then, in order to protect the company’s future, keep jobs and maintain the stability of the Croatian economy. That is the only reason why we are so engaged in this issue,” said Plenković.
