Rijeka, Zagreb, Osijek or Split? Which would you prefer?

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 4th of January, 2018, overall living costs include the price of food items, beer, wine, and cigarettes in stores, as well as public transport, including taxi services, sports activities, kindergarten or school expenses, cost of clothing and footwear, meals and drinks in a cheaper or regular restaurant, etc.

According to an estimate published on the website numbeo.com, a family of four in the Croatian capital of Zagreb requires 14,600 kuna per month without rent, just for general living expenses, Glas Slavonije writes. As for the Dalmatian capital of Split, it would seem that this city is the most expensive when it comes to living costs, which might surprise a lot of those who complain about Dubrovnik’s prices, and I can tell you as a person who lives in Dubrovnik, it isn’t that bad at all. The average net wage in Split is about 660 euros, or about six thousand kuna. A family of four living in Split needs 14,470 per month in order to live comfortably, rent aside. One person needs 4190 kuna. According to numbeo.com, the overall cost of living in Split is 1.33 percent higher than it is in Zagreb, placing the city at number 314 on the scale of world cities.

Rijeka has a cost index of 56.30 and is therefore 0.75 percent lower than Zagreb, making this Northern Adriatic city number 318 on the cost of living in 525 world cities.

The Slavonian city of Osijek’s residents have an average monthly gain of of 564 euros, or about 4300 kuna. Osijek is considerably cheaper than the other three large Croatian cities. A four-member family has monthly living costs of 11,483 kuna, while one person requires 3430 kuna without rent for a normal life. The cost of living index in Osijek is a notable 16.64 percent lower than it is in Zagreb. With an index of 47.29, Osijek comes in at 375th on this ranking of the cost of living in 525 cities worldwide.
