The first Sinj Smrčkijada was held on April 7th in the organization of the mushroom association ‘Sunčanica’ and the Sinj Tourist Board.
Lovers of both mushrooms and nature used their Saturday in Sinj to socialize and search for the first spring mushrooms – Smrčci (Morchella). The event included guests from Herzegovina, Split, Velika Gorica and Šibenik.
The members of the Sunčanica association and their guests embarked on the hunt for mushrooms on Saturday morning. The teams, under the guidance of the hosts, visited the Suhač stream, Gljev, Sinj field, and the close surrounding area of Sinj. It was delightful to watch the participants pick each mushroom they found with excitement while enjoying the floral meadows yellow with butterflies.
After almost 3 hours out in nature, participants returned to the starting point (Sinj pool) for the culmination of the event. The teams then brought forth their mushroom treasures from the hunt, resulting in a few kilograms of a dozen species of mushrooms! A small educational lecture about thMorchellala mushroom was then held, followed by lunch. Vesna and Dušan prepared mushroom goulash, which had everyone licking their fingers.
The event ended with the award for the most mushrooms picked, in both children and adult categories. For the kids, Antonija Gabrić was the winner, and Branko Bartolić, the president of the Croatian Mushroom Society, was victorious for the adults.
The Sunčanica mushroom association plans to organize the ‘Gljivijada’ in autumn with the hope that more locals will be involved in the action.
