ZAGREB, April 19, 2018 – Leaders of the Croat ethnic minority in Serbia on Wednesday expressed regret that the Croatian parliamentary delegation had to terminate its two-day official visit to Serbia and hoped that this would not harm overall Serbian-Croatian relations.
A delegation of the Croatian parliament, led by Speaker Gordan Jandroković, abruptly terminated an official visit to Serbia following an incident caused by Serbian Radical Party leader and MP Vojislav Šešelj.
President of the Democratic Alliance of Croats in Vojvodina (DSHV) Tomislav Žigmanov, who was part of the Serbian parliamentary delegation, said he was sorry that the visit by the Croatian delegation was disrupted as this was an important event for the overall Croatian-Serbian relations and for Croats in Serbia.
We regret this scandalous event which caused the visit to be terminated and is rarely seen in international relations. At the same time, we trust that it won’t leave any lasting consequences on the two countries’ relations, Žigmanov said in a statement to the press.
The leader of the Croatian National Council (HNV) Slaven Bačić sent a similar message. Bačić was to host Croatia’s Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković during a visit to the Croat minority in Subotica on the second day of the visit. “I hope that the public prosecutor will officially take measures that are at his disposal because it is obvious that some criminal acts were committed,” he said.
