Kanstantsin Siutsou, with the help of his teammates, controlled his only competitor to win this year’s Tour of Croatia.
Belarusian cyclist Kanstantsin Siutsou (Bahrain) is the winner of the fourth edition of the Tour of Croatia cycling race that ended on Sunday in Zagreb. After six stages and 1075 kilometers, Siutsou was eight seconds better than second-placed Dutchman Pieter Weening (Roompot), and 53 seconds better than Kazakhstani cyclist Gidič (Astana) in third. The best Croatian cyclist was 39-year-old Radoslav Rogina (Adria Mobil) who took fourth place 1:15 minutes behind the winner, reports Gol.hr on April 22, 2018.
As expected, the sixth and final stage from Samobor to Zagreb, which traveled for 151.5 kilometers, saw no change at the top of the overall order. Siutsou, with the help of his teammates, controlled his only competitor to win. This was done by six cyclists who were not at risk for the overall victory and broke away from the leading group at the early stages of the race to reach the win.
This group also included members of Bardiani CSF, Italian cyclists Mirco Maestri and Paolo Simion, who took significant advantage of this tactic. In the last climb to the finish, Simion set off for his first professional career win and finished 11 seconds ahead of second-placed Maestri, while third place was taken by Romanian Eduard Michael Grosu (Nippo Vini Fantini).
Romania’s Eduard Michael Grosu (Nippo Vini Fantini) was the best sprinter in the race, while Dutchman Peter Koning (Aqua Blue Sport) was the best of ascents.
