As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 7th of June, 2018, instead of the initially conceived number of 31,000, this year, 35,500 foreigners are able to work in Croatia. The Ministry of Labour has undergone urgent changes with regard to the decision on establishing the annual quota for foreigners’ employment permits, which will significantly increase tourism quotas.
This year, the tourism sector should see as many as 4,660 new annual foreigners’ work permits, and according to yet another new proposal, 3,000 more foreign workers will play their respective roles in Croatia’s booming summer tourism sector this year, as many as 7,660 of them, of which most will work as auxiliary workers in tourism, Večernji list writes.
As previously stated, back in December, the government estimated that it would be able to patch up the situation with 3,715 foreign workers in the season, but at the beginning of June, that number has basically doubled.
The annual quota for tourism has now grown to 8,660 foreign workers. In the explanation of the proposal from the Minister of Labour, Marko Pavić, it has been stated that so far, only 1,359 permits are left for the employment of auxiliary workers in tourism, but “1,538 requests have been received and are in the process of being approved,” so new ones will be urgently assigned. It won’t stop there, either, but MUP, which is responsible for allocating and approving such quotas, will have open arms when it comes to redistributing unused permits from other sectors.
