ZAGREB, June 15, 2018 – German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer on Friday received his visiting Croatian counterpart Davor Božinović in Berlin and on that occasion expressed his strong support to Croatia’s admission to the Schengen Area.

Božinović told Hina that Minister Seehofer said that Croatia’s accession to the Schengen Area was both in the interest of Croatia and Europe. “Strengthening European security is the most concrete contribution to the project of the European Union currently and we have agreed on that,” the Croatian minister said.

The German Ministry of the Interior said in a press release that the talks between Seehofer and Božinović focused on migrations through the Western Balkans.

For Croatia, which is an EU member-state with a long external border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is essential to prevent irregular arrivals of migrants, the German ministry said.

We must do our utmost to achieve efficient protection of the external borders so as to prevent illegal migrations and accomplish better security inside the EU. Curbing illegal migrations is in focus of our joint action. My Croatian colleague and I have agreed that we will continue developing good bilateral cooperation, Seehofer was quoted as saying.
