ZAGREB, August 31, 2018 – The payment of wages for July to workers of the Uljanik Group started on Friday, union steward Đino Šverko said on Friday afternoon, adding that the strike committee will on Monday make a formal decision on the end of the industrial action which started ten days ago, and workers in the shipbuilding and repair group will resume working on Monday.
Šverko explained that the salaries had not yet been paid to all of the employees, and therefore the striking workers were still waiting for them, while staying at their workstations.
The unionist thanked striking workers and residents of Pula for their support to the industrial action.
He said that earlier on Friday, local officials, Mayor Boris Miletić and Istria County Prefect Valter Flego informed the unions of their talks in Brussels about the issue of Uljanik.
Workers of the 3. Maj dock in Rijeka, which is also a part of the Uljanik Group, said in the morning that they were waiting for the salaries to be paid on their accounts. The tensions also defused after the fears of 3. Maj workers about the removal of a crane from their dock were dispelled.
