Built in Hamburg by the Blohn & Voss shipyard, the Mircea is a three-masted barque ship whose design is taken from the German Gorch Fock ship, another three-mast barque ship for the German Reichsmarine in 1933.

The Mircea is named after the Wallachian Prince Mircea the Elder, who reigned from 1386 to 1418, with the exception of two years.

The Mircea left the home port of Constanta on August 29th, and stopped in Durres, Albania before coming to Split. The ship will stop in Crete next.

The Mircea can be visited in the Port of Split – quay 17, until Tuesday. Visiting hours are Sunday from 4 pm to 7 pm, and tomorrow from 10 am to 12 pm and 4 pm to 7 pm.
