Norwegian royal family, Assassin’s Creed, Netflix… these are just some of his admirers.
Dino Tomić, a Norwegian born in Bjelovar in Croatia, has been attracting attention with his unusual artwork for years, and his profiles on social networks are followed by half a million people. His art story dates back to 2002 when he moved to Norway as a 14-year-old boy with his parents, a brother and a sister. Although the relocation initially wasn’t easy, it turned out that this step was crucial for his further artistic development since the Norwegian primary schools tend to direct students towards higher education that is closely related to what each child is gifted for, reports Lokalni.hr on September 16, 2018.
Of course, Dino finished the art school, but that was just the beginning. When he was just sixteen years of age, he decided to paint at least one painting every day. “Talent must exist, of course, but if there is no hard work, if you do not progress day after day, you cannot succeed. My goal is to paint at least one painting every day and publish them on social networks, not only so that others can see them, but also for me to keep track of my personal development,” explains Dino.
Over time, he has introduced many new elements in his artistic expression, such as painting with gunpowder, salt and tattooing. One of his latest major projects, which is something which very few artists in the world can say for themselves, is a collaboration with Ubisoft, a publishing house of computer and video games based in France.
“On the occasion of the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the famous Ubisoft game Assassin’s Creed, I used salt to create a picture on a black carpet. I spent about a month on that project, and it took me almost two weeks to figure out how to do it. For me this was a unique opportunity because I grew up playing this game and I was honoured to have been trusted with such an important assignment,” says Dino, adding that he also had other important and prestigious projects.
A few years ago, he was selected to paint portraits of members of the Norwegian royal family, which are now exhibited in the royal palace. “That was one of my smaller projects, but it was certainly special and challenging,” explains Dino.
He believes that all these projects are the result of his sacrifice and constant desire for progress, and he says that it is impossible to see him sitting down and drinking coffee. “For example, I like to travel, but I do not like to waste time on the road because I could paint during that time,” says Dino.
Such a work ethic has brought him many opportunities, and more are soon to follow. Although under a strict contract, he has revealed that he is preparing to create several paintings for one of the most watched Netflix series, and more details will be known in October.
In Norway, Dino has bought a 500-square-metre house, whose rooms are mostly used as an art studio. The native of Bjelovar often visits his hometown. Last summer he brought his girlfriend to see the Bilogora area, which he will keep visiting.
