Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ Filipović is convinced that his next opponent will not win.
Mirko Cro Cop Filipović was very relaxed at the press conference ahead of his fight against Roque Martinez, the heavyweight from the Guam Islands. Cro Cop and Martinez will face off on Sunday in Japan for the Rizin 13, reports Gol.hr on September 28, 2019.
Japanese journalists were interested in Mirko’s health conditions after he suffered a severe knee injury earlier this year. Cro Cop, however, wanted to spend no time on that topic.
“I do not want to talk about it, that’s behind me. I do not want to talk about the accident. Everyone is asking me, and I’m afraid I’m going to break something because I have to repeat that I’m fine one hundred times. I had a serious injury and surgery, I recovered well and that is all about the injury.”
What does Mirko think about his opponent?
”Nothing too much, he is young and hungry to succeed. I’m hungry to stay undefeated at the Rizin and that’s something I’ll prove, he cannot beat me.”
Mirko’s opponent is much younger than the Croatian fighter – does Mirko feel Martinez is at his level?
“We’ll find out on Sunday, but I do not think so, I’m more experienced and you cannot compare our careers. Of course, he is 12 years younger, but I do not think it will make a difference in terms of physical qualities.’’
Many young fighters wish to challenge the ‘Cro Cop’, but how does Mirko feel about it?
”That’s good and I like it, it means that my name is still valid.”
Mirko does not want to face another injury, and we’ve heard that he’s planning to retire on New Year’s Eve. Is this true?
”We’ll see when the time comes.”
What kind of fight does Mirko want to show to his fans?
‘’A good one, like always.”
His plans for the next fight?
”The next fight will surely be for New Year’s Eve.”
Do you have a plan for 2019?
”No,” concluded Mirko Filipović briefly.
