Embassy of Japan in Croatia is organizing the Japan Week 2019 in Zagreb again this year, in Westin hotel in the period between the 2nd and the 8th of March. The goal of this event is to acquaint the visitors with various aspects of the Japanese culture, through lectures, demonstrations, workshops that will be held every day during the Japan Week 2019.
Almost all of the events are free (see below why “almost”), and this year’s programme will include the following, day-by-day:
On Saturday, March 2nd in the Crystal Hall of the Westin Hotel the presentation of the Japanese tourism will take place, starting at 12 noon, followed by a lecture, demonstration and tasting of the Japanese cuisine – supported by the Gyoza Sake Bar and the chef from the Ambassador’s residence Mr. Yasuyuki Ikemoto. The demonstration and tasting will be held for a limited number of visitors.
On Sunday, March 3rd at 4 pm at the Opera Hall of the hotel (on the 17th floor) a mini-concert of the taiko drums, as well as a lecture and a workshop will be held, in cooperation with the Kiyo Kito Taiko. After that bon dancing will be presented with a lecture and a workshop.
Tuesday, March 5th will bring the presentation of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics at 6 pm at Opera Hall, organized by the Croatia-Japanese culture and economy society and Croatian Olympic Committee.
On Wednesday, March 6th at 6 pm in the Crystal Hall, a lecture and demonstration of the tea ceremony with tea tasting will be held for a limited number of participants, and after that a koto mini-concert. Emi Murata from Zagreb University and Nagisa Moritoki from Ljubljana University will be participating.
On Thursday, March 7th a Friendship Concert Japan – Croatia will be held starting at 7 pm at the Crystall Hall. This will be a fundrasing concert, and tickets will be sold for 50 kuna. The performers at the concert will be Matej Meštrović and the Expresto ensemble.
On the last day of the Japan Week 2019, Friday, March 8th, presentation of the Japanese festivals will be held in the Crystall Hall, organized by the Makoto Croatian Japanese Society, and a lecture about the golden age of the Japanese movies, held by Tanja Vrvilo.
Other events taking place during the Japan Week in Zagreb will be the Japanese menu at the Kaptol Restauran, an exhibition of Hina dolls, an exhibition of bonsai (with bonsai association “Zen”), an exhibition of origamy (with Croatian origami society), an exhibition of Japanese prints (with Japanese Print Association) and an exhibition of Japanese caligraphy.
