Hvar Town is one of Croatia’s most beautiful towns, and it has expanded over the years. Imagine what it must have looked like 130 years ago.
As we took the boat to Stipanska for the Carpe Diem dinner night last week, I was struck by the magical sight of Hvar Town at night fading into the distance. It really is a stunning town, by day or by night.
It is a town which has expanded a lot in recent decades, however, and the new apartments and hotels are not as pretty as the original buildings. So how did it look before the expansion? The wonderful Old Postcards and Photographs of Hvar Town Facebook page provide an insight, with this great picture of Hvar in 1882.
