As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 22nd of November, 2019, a young team of experts from the Croatian IT company IDE3 has created an electronic voting system – FairVotes. The system is intended for anyone who holds elections within their organisations, and non-profit and humanitarian organisations can use it for free.
As stated, the Croatian IT company IDE3 d.o.o. designed the FairVotes electronic voting system to make it easier for everyone within their organisations to make the election and voting process easier, more cost-effective, and safe and transparent all at the same time.
As the CEO of the company Ivan Hendija explains, the idea for creating this system came about as a result of collaborating with one client when his team witnessed the complex process of creating, running and finishing a classic election process.
“This process was extremely time-consuming, required the involvement of numerous associates, and the cost was very high. The idea was born for our team to try to speed it up, simplify it, make it more financially accessible, while providing absolute security and transparency to the user. The idea was realised through the FairVotes application for electronic voting intended for associations, organisations, alliances, joint stock companies and all those whose elections are one of the constituent parts of doing business,” said Ivan Hendija.
The FairVotes voting system is easy to use and very flexible. Each user can customise it to their needs. It readily allows you to create questions, add voters to the list, and send voting invitations via e-mail addresses. The election organiser can check the voter turnout at any time and remind people of the ongoing election process, and the results are available as soon as voting is completed.
“This application saves time and money because there’s no cost to print out the ballot, send invitations, hire people to conduct or supervise the voting process, and so on. In addition, what is very important to us in the team is the environmental component. There’s no unnecessary waste of paper and pollution in any way. In addition to all that, it’s fully suited to voters who can cast their votes from home or when having coffee with friends in just a few seconds via their mobile phones, laptops , tablets… The app is supported by all devices. We believe that using this app will see a significantly higher voter turnout,” explained Hendija.
“What matters most to voters is the secrecy and credibility of the vote. With FairVotes, every step of the voting process is completely secure and transparent. Only the person who received the invitation and logged in through the multiple verification process can vote. With the use of our application, there’s no surplus of votes and voters,” Hendi added.
FairVotes is divided into service levels, so the use of this application for non-profits and up to 20 voters is completely free and available at www.fair-votes.com.
“The world is increasingly digitalised and electronic voting is the voting of the future. For example, Estonians have been voting electronically since 2005. We’re expecting a presidential election soon. It would be great for us in Croatia to simplify the voting process at all levels and in all organisations where we can. Who knows, maybe next time we have presidential elections, mayors, parliamentary elections and the like, we can conduct it all electronically, just like the Estonians do,” Hendi concluded.
His entire IDE3 team has been working on the application alongside Ivan Hendija, and the team is celebrating eleven years of existence and successful work these days. Their main business areas are focused on the digitalisation of business processes and modernisation of the working environment in Croatian companies and beyond. They build complex web and mobile software solutions, and their training center offers training for business users in all areas of ICT.
IDE3 has also designed a humanitarian project called “Kompići” to bring back old computers to life and pass them on to those who need them most. So far, “revived” computers have been donated to a number of childcare facilities and to the most needy.
